launching Message In A Bottle in Kinsale

It’s a simple idea that could save time and possibly your life in the event of a health emergency at home.  It looks like this.

The bottle contains a blank form for key information (for example, your name, an emergency contact number, health conditions, along with a list of your medications). This is of great value to First Responders or Ambulance teams.
The bottle also contains two stickers, one for your front door and the other for the cupboard where you want to keep your bottle – many people keep their bottle in their fridge.  A quick tip – you can request a list of your medications from your local Pharmacy and place this in your bottle rather than writing these on the form.  Important to remember to keep the list up-to-date when any changes are made to your medications.

Most importantly you yourself as it saves precious time in an emergency and will also give you peace of mind. The emergency teams too.  If you are living with a chronic or critical condition whatever your age, living alone or, even living with a partner, roommate or spouse, this will benefit you.  We find partners/spouses don’t always know each other’s list of medications.

Good news – Message In A Bottle is free!  It is an important priority for our Kinsale & District Lions Club’s 2026 community wellbeing focus. Of course, if you would like to donate, we would be more than happy to accept !

We are currently working with GP surgeries so that you can pick up your bottle there.  To spread the word and to ensure we help as many people as we can,  we will be conducting short talks with clubs and community groups as well as churches, An Garda Siochana, District Health Services and many others across our District to get Message In A Bottle known, being used and saving precious time/lives.  We look forward to meeting you in one of our talks this year.  Please do get in touch if your club/association would like a talk from us – we’d be delighted. Also, if you have experience to share about how Message In a Bottle helped you or someone you know,  we’d love to hear you.
