Golf Classic a Huge Success

The Kinsale Lions Club is delighted that the 2025 Kinsale & District Charity Golf Classic was another outstanding success, with over 60 teams taking part in this year’s event. Hosted at the beautiful Kinsale Golf Club, the day combined sunshine (mostly!), good-natured competition, and incredible community spirit – all in support of vital local causes. This much-loved annual fundraiser continues to grow year on year, and 2025 saw a record number of new teams getting involved – a strong sign of the thriving volunteerism and generosity that defines our community.

A special word of thanks goes to our main sponsor, Kinsale Spirit Company, whose support played a major role in the success of the day. We are proud to be associated with such a respected local brand that consistently backs community-driven initiatives. We also extend our sincere gratitude to Kinsale Golf Club – with particular thanks to Captain Gavin Farrissey, Lady Captain Pauline O’Brien, President Ger Cullinane, Chairman Hilary Madden, and the entire team – for their warm hospitality and impeccable course conditions.

Behind the scenes, the event was driven by our outstanding Golf Committee, led by Dan Cummins, Neilus Bohane, Tony Boland, Eddie McCarthy, and Eoin McCarthy, supported by a superb crew: Alice De La Cour , Liz Timmons , Sheila Waldron , Hal McElroy, Brian Moore, Tomas O’Donovan, and Eddie Plunkett. Their dedication and organisation ensured the day ran seamlessly from start to finish. A special mention must go to Cathy, who expertly managed the logistics throughout the day and kept everything running smoothly – thank you for your incredible work.

We are also deeply grateful to all our players, sponsors, raffle donors, goody bag contributors, and volunteers, whose support means everything. The proceeds from the event will directly benefit local families, youth projects, and community services – with every cent raised going straight back into the Kinsale area. The raffle, which featured a fantastic array of prizes, was another highlight of the evening. Thanks to everyone who bought tickets and supported our cause – and if you didn’t win this year, there’s always next time!

This year’s Golf Classic also marked the continued growth of the Kinsale Lions Club, with many new members and volunteers joining our ranks. It’s heartening to see the spirit of giving and community involvement alive and well. Now in its 33rd year, the Kinsale Lions Club remains a 100% voluntary organisation, committed to supporting those in need across our district. We operate with no salaries and no overheads – just locals helping locals.

Finally, we were honoured to be joined on the day by several of our Past Presidents, whose leadership has helped build the legacy we’re proud to carry forward today. Thank you once again to everyone who helped make this event such a success – we look forward to seeing you all again next year!
